How To Rp a Dinosaur
Here in Arazoa we often get this question " how do you RP a dinosaur? "
Dinosaur RP really isn't all that different from your basic RP on Furcadia; especially if you're familiar with feral RP, such as big cat RP, small cat RP, wolf and dog RP, and or horse RP. If you're familiar with the feral RP area of Furcadia, then rping a dinosaur will be quite easy!
When you Rp an animal you take into account of its body shape, size, and what it can use for body language to go along with its speech. Such as when Rping wolves, players often use their tails, posture, and ears to send emotion to go along with their voices. The same here fits for dinosaurs, and the only differences are the body, size, shape, and species. Sure your creature may not have big perky ears, or a wagging tail, but, your dinosaur can still ruffle it's feathers, shake itself when it's wet, and lay down to curl up with others for warmth. Plus much more!
Comparison to dinosaur RP and other forms of feral RP is pretty much like this:
Raptor Rp = Wolf Rp
Rping large carnivore theropods like Allosaurus to Tyrannosaurus Rex = Wolf and Lion Rp
Rping Spinosaurs = Crocs / Tiger Rp
Herbivores = Like Rping horses
This is an example of a session of T-rex Roleplay ( Yes it's taken from an actual RP plot! ) :
Bloodletter snarled inwardly at the other male, fighting to hide the rage and desire to rip his throat out. He sighed as if clearing his previous anger. He knew he was caught in a trap of wits. The wrong step would tear down every argument he'd thus far placed. Were it not for his adversary being male and infuriating, he'd find this game of wits...fun. He bowed his head, voice calming to a low, even tone. "I suppose you're right. I've cared for her since she hatched. I guess I'm not ready to see her leave. Her companion doesn't know her like I do." He gazed up at the sky, watching a cloud pass over the moon. "She's just so young. I've seen her chase after other boys and it never ends well for her. I suppose just wanted to protect her. But, maybe my time is done." He shifted his weight, playing his cards through his mind, deciding how best to try to pry her location out of the other male.(c)
Bloodletter. "If you won't do it because I fear for her life, will you at least let me know where she is so I can see for myself that she is indeed happy and well? How am I to trust your word on that anymore than you seem to have trusted mine?"
Bloodsurf. The sudden change of heart came as sort of a surprise to the male. He was expecting the male to put up more of a tantrum. He was still leery of the younger male--he couldn't wrap his head around his odd behavior. His determination to find her was unsettling. When he finally left his family group, he was happy to be rid of his siblings. Regardless of how close they were. Somewhere on the continent, Bloodsurf had three brothers and a maimed sister. Blood was the second oldest, one of his brothers having hatched a day before him. He was particularly close to his youngest brother, and they often sparred and wrestled, but bonded very close. He was the first to leave the nest. While Blood missed him--he didn't lose sleep over him. He didn't panic or brawl. It was a part of life. Either this young male was unable to grasp this concept of how life worked--or he had an alternate agenda. Bloodsurf approached the female, very calmly--as he had the first time. If she didn't panic, >>
Bloodsurf. he would outstretch his muzzle to her to gently nip at her neck, straightening a few stray feathers. A little cocky as far as advances go, but. She'd gone for the grooming once before, maybe she would again. Assuming she didn't snap at him, after fixing the muddled feathers, he'd look back to the stranger male. "Forgive me for seeming suspicious, but to be perfectly honest. I question your agenda. You wreak of death, and lies. I can't think of a reasonable basis to disclose the locale of your sister and her mate. I think you intend to kill the male." He murmured coldly--brutally honest. Shots fired. If the male was truly sincere--then a good reason would come easily. If not--well. We'll see.
Kalama was watching this in mild interest, she hadn't interjected much because, this was an interesting battle of wits, and she wasn't sure who was winning right now. It was a clever tactic, however, her focus immediately went to the one who approached her and attempted to fix her feathers. Rumbling at him in a slight hiss, and her eyes narrowed, but she didn't attack him. She was onto him, and his little sneaking move didn't go unwatched. When he spoke to the one who had been pissed off about not being able to find his sister, well, she certainly wanted to hear the reaction out of this! Too bad popcorn hasn't been invented yet.
Bloodletter regarded the male with a confused but interested look. "Agenda?" He chuckled, "I wreak of death because nosy little boys come knocking in my territory with the intention of breaking my sister's heart. I've given warnings and yet they persist. Why allow it to continue unpunished?" He got a smartass grin, "I apologize for not bathing first, I was a bit preoccupied with trying to find my sister. The lies, well. I'm not quite sure where you've arrived at that notion, nor the one that I intend to kill her companion. I did say that I protected her, did I not? If it seemed his intentions with her were not to hurt her, why would I kill him?" He tilted his head, voice plastered with curiosity. "Of course I am angry with him for teaching her those dangerous things, but, in her delusions, I suppose she'd have done it anyway. Not an unforgivable thing. I only wish to see that you are telling the truth, nothing more. You could even come with me...if you still don't trust me."
Here is an example of a session of Raptor Rp! ( Yes it's taken from an actual Rp! ):
Reazi in poking her head into the den, she could see him, and he was attempting to walk. Moving to sit inside and watch him. It was a slow progress, but at least he was making progress. At least he was looking better, much better than before. " You're doing better. " She finally said from her place, were it not for the bright markings, he might not have seen her hiding in the shadows of the den's cave wall. In all these days, he hadn't been hurt by her, not once.
Neiko oh he knew she hadn't. But old lessons are learnt harshly and taught behaviors are even harder to unlearn. Which was why when he did finally notice her he gave such a screech he might as well have shook the den itself, leaping into the air and then hitting the ground with a whump. Giving a quiet hiss he'd pull his legs beneath him and take a submissive posture. Obviously something had happened to this kid at some point in chickhood to make him such a well, a mental case.
Reazi continued to sit where she was while watching him. Jumping slightly when he suddenly screeched so loudly that it caused her to jump! Surely all the dead animals she'd ever killed could have heard him from that scream! Watching him as he leapt into the air and then hit the ground, that probably didn't do any good for his healing wounds. Trying, and failing to keep her laughter in. Tumbling over in laughter, oh god, that had been hilarious!!
